Oregon militant skids off a road, flips his van -- then gets cited for driving without a license

A California man involved in the armed occupation of a wildlife refuge in Oregon received a citation early Sunday morning after crashing a van, according to local media.

Oregon Public Broadcasting and The Oregonian reported that 57-year-old Darrow Burke flipped the Ford van on an icy road in Harney County.

The van crashed through a barbed-wire fence and ended up coming to a stop on its side about 150 feet from the road. Burke was not injured.

Burke was cited for driving without a license after officers arrived at the crash.

“Oregon only cites for No Operator’s License, we do not arrest,” State Police Spokesman Bill Fugate told Oregon Public Broadcasting.

The militants took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Harney County earlier this month to protest the jailing of ranchers Steven and Dwight Hammond, who were convicted of arson.
