Ouch: Conservative writer warns Limbaugh 'he's going to get a pay cut' thanks to Sandra Fluke

According to a Weekly Standard conservative writer for the Weekly Standard andPolitico, radio host Rush Limbaugh is looking to take a financial hit in his new contract negotiations because advertisers are still avoiding him like the plague four years after he called then-college student Sandra Fluke a "slut."

Eight years ago, Limbaugh signed a massive contract paying him $400 million, but that contract is ending and -- with advertisers still boycotting --  the radio host is looking a equally massive cut in pay.

Just four years after signing his deal, Limbaugh attacked the Georgetown law student on his radio show after she called on Congress to include contraceptive coverage in health care plans.

The next day, Limbaugh tore into her by calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute."

"What does it say about the college co-ed Sandra Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex, what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute," Limbaugh bellowed. "She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We're the pimps. The johns? We would be the johns? No! We're not the johns. Yeah, that's right. Pimp's not the right word. Okay, so she's not a slut. She's round heeled. I take it back."

Although Limbaugh later apologized, an estimated 45 advertisers fled and never looked back, leaving syndicator Premiere Radio Networks with a big contract and considerably less income to pay it with.

On Sunday, CNN host Brian Stetler marveled at the fact and asked pressed writer Ethan Epstein, "This is a rare sort of ad boycott that has had a long-term effect. "

"That's exactly right, Brian," replied Epstein. "Four years ago is like an eternity in the media universe. I'm sure those people haven't even thought of Sandra Fluke."

"What's amazing is that, after all of those companies came out and announced they were going to boycott the Limbaugh show, they stuck by it," he continued. "They never came back for the most part, and that has had a serious deleterious effect on his business.

Noting that Limbaugh's expiring contract was guaranteed, Epstein said that Limbaugh is going to take a hit financially because he's definitely looking at a pay cut no matter where he goes.

Epstein also pointed out that Limbaugh's Fluke comments had a ripple effect, causing companies to shy away from advertising on other conservative radio broadcasts -- cutting into their bottom lines too.
