A former federal prosecutor slammed the Department of Justice and Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday for filing a complaint against a federal judge on suspicious grounds.
Glenn Kirschner discussed the complaint filed against Chief Justice James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in his latest episode of the "Justice Matters" podcast. In the complaint, DOJ lawyers argued that Boasberg made improper statements about President Donald Trump's administration by conveying concern that the administration could defy federal court orders.
"President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have taken gaslighting to ridiculous new lows," Kirschner said, adding that one of Bondi's "flunkies" must have filed the complaint.
Kirschner described the complaint as "shocking."
"What outrageous misconduct for somebody to articulate that they have concerns about the Trump administration possibly defying federal court orders," Kirschner added sarcastically.
The complaint was filed at a time when the Trump administration appears to be growing combative with judges with whom they disagree. For instance, the Trump administration defied one of Boasberg's orders to prevent an airplane carrying migrants to El Salvador from taking off. The administration has also publicly criticized judges who attempt to slow down the president's deportation agenda.
Trump has also nominated a DOJ lawyer named Emil Bove to the federal bench, who has told his colleagues to ignore court orders to help the president politically. Bove was also one of Trump's defense attorneys in his New York state case.
"Only the Department of Justice and the Trump administration will undermine the judiciary by defying court orders early and often," Kirschner said. "Pam Bondi apparently won't stand for anyone else undermining the judiciary. I guess that's the exclusive province of Pam Bondi's Department of Justice."
"Are you f------ kidding me?" Kirschner added.
