'White nationalist' GOP lawmaker is a ‘scourge’ on Congress and should be expelled: Ex-RNC official

Rep. Paul Gosar's racism and conspiracy-mongering has slipped under the radar during his decade in Congress, but one prominent Republican says it's time for him to go.

The Arizona Republican remains best known for a blistering ad his siblings recorded for his 2018 opponent, but his involvement in the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection and his speech last week at a white nationalist gathering should get him expelled from the House of Representatives, wrote conservative Tim Miller for The Bulwark.

"What we have in Gosar is a man who has trafficked in racist and bigoted conspiracies for as long as he has been in Congress culminating in an effort to plot a coup alongside domestic terrorists who went on to storm the Capitol and assassinate a police officer," wrote Miller, who served as Jeb Bush's 2016 communications director and the Republican National Committee's liaison to Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign.

"The only differences between Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene are that he's a man, he's not as camera-ready, and his conspiracies don't have the fanciful frazzledrippian flair," he added. "Everything else: samesies."

Democrats haven't mounted a serious challenge to Gosar in a deep-red district, and Republicans have shown little interest in holding him accountable.

"There is no movement to unseat him," Miller wrote. "No complaint from the conservative stalwarts who lecture anyone who dares argue that there might be merit in working with Joe Biden. No state party censures. No nothing."

"A traitor and white-nationalist collaborator sits in Congress undeterred, unchallenged, a member in good standing of the Grand Old Party," he added. "And that's the real scourge."
