Paul Manafort is suing the Justice Department and Robert Mueller

Former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is suing special counsel Robert Mueller, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and the Justice Department.

According to the filing, Manafort claims that Rosenstein's appointment of Mueller "exceeds the Deputy Attorney General's authority under DOJ's special counsel regulations."

The filing also suggests that Mueller "lacks authority" to investigate the business dealings of individuals under investigation and charges the special counsel with an "abuse of discretion" for doing so. Mueller has long been investigating Manafort's finances and business arrangements, much of which took place overseas.

He was indicted in October 2017 on 12 counts "related to unlawful financial dealings," CNBC noted.
