Paul Manafort may plead guilty to get out of having to go to his second trial

Lawyers for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort are negotiating a potential guilty plea to get him out of his second trial, which is slated to begin in the District of Columbia later in September.

"Manafort’s lawyers have talked to prosecutors about a POSSIBLE GUILTY PLEA to avert his second criminal trial, which is set to begin in Washington this month," Bloomberg News' Jennifer Jacobs tweeted, citing a scoop from coworker David Voreacos.

In August, Manafort was found guilty of tax fraud, bank fraud and hiding foreign bank accounts by a federal jury in Virginia. His second trial slated to begin in DC focuses on charges of money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent.

After court records from the former Trump campaign chairman's trial were unsealed, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow reported that Manafort's attorneys were given the option to choose just one of the two trials — but opted to have him sit for both.
