Philadelphia mayor gives 'Occupy Philly' eviction notice

Following in the footsteps of New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg and Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa to name a few, Philadelphia's top political executive Michael Nutter has given his local 'Occupy' protesters a notice of eviction.

'Occupy Philadelphia' protesters received notices Friday evening to move across the street from City Hall by Sunday 5 P.M and not erect any tents or stay overnight, according to ABC affiliate WPVI.

As police distributed the notices, protesters chanted "Shame" at the development.

"They cannot take away permission for you to be here, because this is your home," one protester told WPVI.

The move by Nutter is to help the start of development for a $50 million renovation of Dilworth Plaza. But the Philadelphia mayor has cited similar concerns like the ones voiced by Bloomberg and Villaraigosa in their decisions for eviction, calling conditions at the encampment "intolerable" and filled with "serious health and safety issues."

"You must remove all of your possessions and yourself from that location within the next 48 hours," Nutter said. "We cannot allow the current conditions of Dilworth Plaza, including the massing of tents and 24 hour a day camping to continue."

While some protesters said they would leave, others vowed to stay after official eviction.

"If they get rid of us, we will only come back stronger," said protester Jesse Greenberg to WPVI. "The more you do to us, the more of us will appear."
