Police: Woman broke into home and tried breast feeding stranger's baby

A woman in Brookings, South Dakota says she's innocent after she was accused of breaking into a home and then trying to breast feed another woman's infant.

The two-month-old's mother said she was awoken by her dogs at around 5 a.m. on Sunday and called 911 when she found Rebecca Silva, 24, in the house trying to breast feed her child. Police believe that alcohol may have been a factor.

"After (the resident) called police, she found the suspect lying in her bed," Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers told The Associated Press.

Silva insisted to the AP that she was invited into the house and never tried to breast feed the child, but recalled having an argument with the mother.

"I did not break into her house," she said. "She invited me in. She gave me her pajamas. She lied to the cops that I broke into her house. I did not try to feed her baby. That didn't happen."

Silva was charged with misdemeanor unlawful occupancy and released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court on April 30.
