Politics professor wipes floor with Morning Joe panel: Trump's tariffs are 'dumbass economics'

Dan Drezner, a politics professor at the The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, on Wednesday asserted that President Donald Trump's plan to place tariffs on steel and aluminum was "dumbass economics."

During an Morning Joe panel discussion about the tariff plan, MSNBC host Chris Matthews argued that "smart politicans that want to get re-elected" in states like Pennsylvania are backing Trump's move.

"These tariffs hurt ordinary working-class Americans," Drezner explained, pointing out that the plan would "raise consumer prices."

"To push back on Chris' point, this notion that free trade is only important by effete intellectuals on the coast is absurd," he continued. "The fact is... [these tariffs] will create a net loss of 150,000 jobs primarily in the manufacturing industry."

According to the politics professor, Trump's claim that the tariffs will create jobs "is absolutely absurd."

"It's dumbass economics," he concluded.
