‘The President of the United States is a white supremacist’: Mychal Denzel Smith slams Trump on national TV

President Donald Trump was called out on national TV as a "white nationalist" and "white supremacist" after the commander-in-chief's latest diatribe against black National Football League players protesting police discrimination.

Appearing with MSNBC's Katy Tur, New York Times bestselling author Mychal Denzel Smith called out President Trump on the anniversary weekend of the fatal "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"The president is tweeting about the NFL because he believes it's a political winner for him," Tur noted.

"Steve Bannon has gone out there and said out loud that identity politics is a winner for Donald Trump -- it worked in 2016, it will work in the midterms, it will work in 2020," Tur added.

"I disagree with that because I'd say that Donald Trump is tweeting about the NFL because he's a racist," suggested the author of Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching.

"We've known he's a racist since at least 1989, when he tried to get the Central Park Five killed -- executed for a crime they did not commit," he argued. "And maybe before that, when he wouldn't rent any of his properties to black people."

"The President of the United States is a white nationalist, is a white supremacist," Smith concluded. "That is who he is."

"And so in seeing the NFL players be insubordinate and not deferential to a white supremacist notion of what country and fealty to country should be, he is calling for them to bend a knee to him, to say to them that they need to recognize their place, to not step out of line, to entertain us, to be the black bodies that entertain us," he continued.

"These are just the held beliefs of the President of the United States," he added.
