Pro-Kavanaugh lobbyist claims conservatives are 'galvanized' by sexual assault allegations against him

A lobbyist working to get Brett Kavanaugh confirmed believes conservatives have been "galvanized" by the mounting sexual assault allegations against the Supreme Court nominee.

Carrie Severino, the chief counsel with the Judicial Crisis Network, told the New York Times that the White House is "clearly very strongly behind" Kavanaugh — and so is Donald Trump's base.

"If anything," Severino added, "I’m seeing conservatives more galvanized by what is going on because it has become such a pattern of unsubstantiated smears and character assassination.”

The Times noted that the Kavanaugh support extended far beyond lobbying groups working to get him confirmed and into Congress.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for example, is expected to give a speech in defense of the Supreme Court nominee this afternoon. In it, he will explain "why [Kavanaugh] will make an exceptional justice," the Times reported.
