Puerto Rican mayor says Trump has violated islander's human rights on MSNBC

Mayor Carmen Cruz, who leads the largest city in Puerto Rico, was on MSNBC Sunday night to discuss a new report about the death toll on the island following a hurricane and mismanagement by the Trump administration.

Cruz spoke out last year about deaths and extended power outages on the island, calling out Trump and getting blowback from conservatives who floated weird conspiracy theories about Cruz letting her people die to embarrass the president.

"President Trump tweets about the crack of dawn, and he hasn't even tweeted one time to say 'Look, I mourn with the people of Puerto Rico," she says. "So this total neglect has to be called upon. The United Nations says that when people are denied their right to access to basic human services, like electric power, like water, like food, like appropriate medical care, that it is a violation of human rights."
