Reality star Michelle Duggar’s latest delivery: Robocall describing trans people as ‘child predators’

Reality television star Michelle Duggar warned residents in Fayetteville, Arkansas that a measure banning discrimination against LGBT individuals would allow men with "child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls," the Washington Postreports.

Duggar, one of the stars of TLC's 19 Kids and Counting, was calling in reference to the Fayetteville City Council's discussion of a civil rights ordinance that would ban discrimination against members of the LGBT community.

According to Duggar, "the Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men -- yes I said men -- to use womens and girls restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only."

"I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls," she continued. "I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space."

The call claimed to be funded by a local group called Free Fayetteville, whose official website claims to be about "empowering liberty in our hometown." But the only link on that site leads to a post on the blog of the Family Council, a state-wide group that promotes "traditional family values."

Despite the reality star's plea, the measure passed the City Council by a 6-2 margin after hours of debate on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The vote was finally taken at 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning, after all parties who wanted to speak were given time to present their piece.
