The federal judge who is overseeing the case of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn has ordered that prosecutors make public several documents related to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, according to CNN.
Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court has ordered that portions of the Mueller report that pertain to Flynn be posted on a court website by May 31.
The judge has also ordered the public release of transcripts of Flynn's calls with former Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and a November 2017 voicemail involving Flynn and Trump’s attorney.
"Each of the documents, once made public, could bring revelations about Mueller's work. The transcripts alone could answer lingering questions about what exactly Flynn said to the Russians that caused so much concern among US intelligence and how a message that factored into the obstruction of justice probe into President Donald Trump played out," CNN noted.
Flynn pleaded guilty to one felony count of lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russia's ambassador in late December 2016. He is still awaiting sentencing.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson, meanwhile, has ordered federal prosecutors to turn over unredacted portions of Mueller’s report that relate to former Trump associate Roger Stone,
“These cases, collectively, could have a big impact on what we know of the Trump campaign’s possible collaboration with the Russians and attempts to obstruct justice by influencing the course of potential cooperation with the investigation,” Claire Finkelstein of the University of Pennsylvania Law School told The Washington Times. "It might be a few sentences or a few paragraphs that are redacted, but they are critical sentences and paragraphs."
