Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) appeared on Meet The Press Sunday morning, expressing his belief that the tea party's influence is diminishing.
Reid talked about his frustration again with Republicans in Congress, citing last month's payroll tax debate as a potential turning point for improved relations.
"I would hope they understand that everything doesn't have to be a fight," he said. "And I hope the tea party doesn't have the influence in this next year they had in the previous year."
Host David Gregory decided to question Reid on a previous comment.
"Almost a year ago, you thought the tea party would die out as the economy got better, you weren't right about that?" Gregory said.
Reid replied: "I think the tea party is dying out as the economy is getting better slowly."
"You think that?" Gregory asked.
"Oh sure," Reid said. "No question about that."
"I would hope the two Republicans leaders [Mitch McConnell and John Boehner] have learned what took place the previous year."
