Rep. John Conyers hospitalized as sexual harassment allegations continue to pile up

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), who has been accused by multiple women of serial sexual harassment, has been hospitalized due to what a spokesman is describing as "stress."

As Click On Detroit reports, the 88-year-old Conyers was admitted to a Detroit-area hospital on Thursday morning.

"I just spoke with Monica Conyers on the phone and we want you to know that the congressman is resting comfortably in an area hospital," political consultant Sam Riddle told Click On Detroit. "He's doing OK, as well as he can be expected for a gentleman that's approaching 90 years of age... the congressman's health is not what it should be and lot of that is directly attributable to this media assault."

Conyers on Sunday stepped down from his post as ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him. The allegations against Conyers first became public after a BuzzFeed report revealed that he had used taxpayer dollars to settle a harassment complaint made by a former staffer.

Marion Brown, with whom Conyers settled a sexual harassment claim in 2015, went on NBC's "Today" on Thursday to recount his behavior during her time working as a staffer in his office.

"Some of the things that he did, it was sexual harassment," she told the show. "Violating my body, propositioning me, inviting me to hotels with the guise of discussing business, and then propositioning for sex. He just violated my body. He has touched me in different ways, and it was very uncomfortable and very unprofessional."
