Rep. Steve King gets hilarious new Wikipedia name after he bizarrely claims to be Hispanic

A stridently vocal anti-immigrant congressman from Iowa has declared himself "Hispanic and Latino" on Friday.

In response to comments from Housing and Urban Development secretary Julian Castro that the Republican party can "kiss the Latino vote goodbye," Republican Rep. Steve King took to Twitter to correct him.

"Does [Castro] know that I'm as Hispanic and Latino as he?" implored King.

A prankster quickly edited his Wikipedia page and changed his name to its Spanish translation: Esteban Arnoldo "Steba" Rey.

His Wikipedia page was also quickly updated to cite the tweet and reflect he is of "Irish, German, Welsh, English, and Hispanic" ancestry. In an archived version of a local news story, King told columnist Chuck Offenberger in 2002 that his background was Irish, German and Welsh.

Last year King was caught on tape insulting young DREAMer activist Erika Andiola when she confronted him and told him since he's so brazenly anti-immigrant, he should tear up her DACA card.

"You're very good at English," he said, pointing his finger in her face.

"I was raised in the United States," she responded.

"I scold the drug smugglers, now you're not going to tell me you're one of them are you?" King asks the young woman.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA program, allows some immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as young children to register and have legal status.
