Reporter on Fox News schools obtuse conservative who can’t understand why Trump committed a crime

Conservative defenders of President Donald Trump are continuing to insist that the president committed no crimes despite being implicated in felonies by both former attorney Michael Cohen and National Enquirer parent company American Media, Inc.

During an appearance on Fox News, Wall Street Journal reporter Shelby Holliday patiently explained to conservative writer Byron York why Trump was facing real legal jeopardy for his role in directing both Cohen and AMI to break the law on his behalf.

While discussing the illegal campaign contributions made by both Cohen and AMI, York tried to claim that Trump settling the lawsuit over defrauding former students at Trump University could also in theory be seen as a campaign finance violation because it was intended to sway the outcome of the election.

However, there are some problems with this claim: First, Trump only settled the Trump University lawsuit after he had been elected president, and he settled it with his own money and not the money of a corporate entity.

"That's not an illegal contribution," Holliday told him. "That's him settling a lawsuit."

"What's illegal about paying a woman?" York asked.

"So the corporate donation from AMI..." Holliday began.

"But that's only if it's actually a campaign contribution," York interjected.

"But they've said it is!" Holliday replied. "In the statement of facts they acknowledge that this was intended to help the president."
