Republican scrambles to explain the party's plan for replacing Obamacare

On Wednesday, Sen. Joe Kennedy (R-LA) appeared on CNN to make the case for eliminating the Affordable Care Act.

But like many Republicans including President Donald Trump, Kennedy could not cite specific policies to replace the ACA, or for that matter explain how Republicans plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions.

"I remember your words from February of this year, two words, Obamacare sucks," said CNN's Brooke Baldwin.

"It does," Kennedy retorted.

"But when you think about the good folks in Louisiana and they're saying, all right, Senator, you want to take my health care away, what do you tell them is the replacement plan?" she pressed.

"I would tell them, look, I must have misspoken, because I've never said take their health care away. But before I would end the Affordable Care Act it seems to me that it would behoove all of us, especially the American people, to have a replacement ready. That is why we need to get started now. I don't know a single person, Republican or Democrat, who thinks we shouldn't cover pre-existing conditions," Kennedy said.

"I think we have a little time because the ACA is working its way through the courts. The courts aren't going to give us a definitive ruling next week or maybe even this time next year."

"It's just ... a lot if people are wondering ... you have a long time based on the courts." Baldwin said.
