Senate Republicans feel 'burned' by Trump and won't do 'anything' on shutdown: CNN report

On Friday, CNN reporter Phil Mattingly revealed that Senate Republicans felt "burned" by President Donald Trump after he backtracked on signing a bill that would have prevented the government shut down.

The partial government shut down will continue for another week, after Trump demanded billions in funding for his border wall.

Mattingly told CNN host Jim Acosta that no progress is being made and that there is no end in sight. He also noted that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will seek to open the government back up in the new year.

"Even though there may be legislative action shortly after Democrats take the majority in the House, there is no sense it's necessarily going to go anywhere," Mattingly said.

"Senate Republicans feel very burned by what happened last week when the president decided not to sign something that had been agreed to unanimously in the chamber," he said.

"They have made clear, they don't want to move forward on anything until the president signs off, and that basically puts everyone in the same place they have been for a matter of days. Entrenched in their current positions," he said.
