'Recipe for disaster': GOP warned that it's 'setting itself up for landslide loss'

Republicans are setting themselves up for a massive loss next year by passing President Donald Trump's "big beautiful bill" and then running away from it, according to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.

House Republicans headed back home early to avoid questions about Trump's longstanding ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the "Morning Joe" host said those who have dared to make public appearances – such as Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who was heckled at a memorial event last week – have come face to face with furious voters.

"You know, I will say, you work with people on the ground, and you work with people on the ground and the very people who do well, who have done well, who do well in general elections, are the people who do work and with others," Scarborough said. "We're coming into elections this fall, going to have off-year elections next year, where there are a lot of Republicans that are sitting in seats that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won, and they are setting themselves up to be part of a landslide loss because they're just completely silent. They don't hold town hall meetings, they're hiding in their offices."

"You look at Stefanik – goes out, she can't even speak at a ceremony in her own district because, again, they've taken positions that are so out of the mainstream for their district, for swing districts," Scarborough added. "It's a recipe for disaster for Republicans, so they sit here and they're hiding, and they think, 'Oh, well, if we just hide and keep our head down, we'll be okay.' No, no, that's never how it works in politics, ever, and so they're silent. Well, all of the chaos is going on, and when the elections come, the voters remember."
