'Very disturbing': Members of own party hit J.D. Vance over 'childless cat ladies' remark

Republicans on the conservative Newsmax network slammed GOP vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance after a video surfaced of him attacking "childless cat ladies."
In a segment on Thursday, Newsmax spoke to two Republican strategists who condemned Vance's remarks from a 2021 interview with then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
"We're effectively run in this country — via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs — by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too," Vance said at the time.
Republican consultant Jeanette Hoffman observed that her party traditionally struggled with women voters.
"I'm not going to sugarcoat it," Hoffman said. "This is not helping. This is not helping women, especially when it seems he's so insensitive and cruel to women who don't have children, and that may not be their own choice."
"And it also opens up the issue of IVF, which some women, which some Republicans have said they want to take away that option for women," she noted. "So it's really not a great first week on the campaign trail for J.D. Vance."
Former California Republican Party Chair Tom Del Beccaro agreed.
"I agree 100%, and this is going to be important going forward," he explained. "I debated Kamala Harris. I didn't attack her personally."
Newsmax host Katrina Szish pointed out that Jennifer Aniston and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg had attacked Vance after his comments resurfaced.

"Listen, 2021 wasn't that long ago," Hoffman observed. "He was still a candidate for U.S. Senate, so I think it is relevant, and the Democrats — it's a smart tactic for them to bring it up, so I think he's going to have to do a lot of damage control with women there."
"They're more than half of this population, and just because a woman doesn't have children or a man doesn't make them less important or make their vote any less or the fact that they shouldn't have a stake in the future of this country," she added. "It's a very disturbing comment to me."
