A music publicist who helped arrange a Trump Tower meeting between members of the Trump campaign and Russians who were offering opposition research on Hillary Clinton also said that he could get Donald Trump a personal audience with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Buried in more than 1,000 pages of documents released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday is testimony in which Rob Goldstone recalls offering Trump an invitation to Russia.
Goldstone explains in his testimony that Azerbaijani singer-songwriter Emin Agalarov had invited Trump to attended his father's birthday in Moscow.
After longtime Trump assistant Rhona Graff said that it would be difficult to attend the party because of Trump's presidential campaign, Goldstone said he made another offer.
"I totally understand," Goldstone recalled telling Graff, adding, "unless maybe he would welcome a meeting with President Putin which Emin would set up."
In a statement released on Wednesday, Senate Democrats alleged that the Senate documents show ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“[T]he Committee has found evidence of multiple contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian government officials or their intermediaries, including offers of assistance and purported overtures from Vladimir Putin," the statement said.
