DOJ asked to investigate potentially illegal Trump deal with RFK Jr.

The anti-Trump conservatives at Lincoln Project on Friday formally requested that the United States Department of Justice open a probe into whether former President Donald Trump illegally promised Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a position in his administration in exchange for his endorsement.

The group's letter outlines how Kennedy was in contact with both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris's campaigns over the last several months in an apparent attempt to gauge whether they might offer him something in their administrations in exchange for his endorsement.

"Contemporaneous allegations, unconfirmed but investigable, suggest that at some point Trump offered RFK Jr. a public office in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, up to and including the position of Secretary of HHS, in exchange for RFK Jr.'s endorsement in the 2024 presidential election," the letter asserts. "For example, RFK Jr.'s own family member recently wrote in the Washington Post, 'my cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., endorsed Donald Trump, reportedly in exchange for a Cabinet-level position overseeing efforts in the health arena."

The letter goes on to acknowledge that the DOJ has never prosecuted a politician for corruptly trading government jobs for endorsements, but it also contends that "America has also never had a felon indicted and convicted for interfering with an election for president before" as Trump was earlier this year.

"This is a serious matter in which Trump is interfering in and undermining American elections at the highest level," the letter states in its closing. "An investigation cannot wait."

While Trump has not said whether he would appoint RFK Jr. in his administration, he has made the renegade Kennedy a member of his transition team.
