Former sheriff who served jail time for intimidation hit with new torture charge

A former sheriff who served jail time for intimidating witnesses and battery has been charged with torture and kidnapping, ABC 30 reported.

Richard Ramirez, 49, who was an employee of the Tulare County Sheriff's Office in California, was arrested Sunday after a suspected domestic incident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In 2021, he was convicted of several charges related to domestic violence, including witness intimidation, felony stalking and battery, and was sentenced to 5 years and 8 months in prison. He was released due to time served.

After his latest arrest, he was not given bail.

If convicted, he faces life in prison.
