Democrats don't have many pickup opportunities in the 2024 Senate map, but they have some hopes that they can run a competitive race against Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).
In an interview with The Daily Beast, major Democratic donor John Morgan delivered a blunt assessment of Scott as a candidate.
"He looks bad," Morgan said. "He looks like an alien that has just landed here with ET. He’s not a prototypical candidate. He’s very awkward... Rick Scott is the most wounded bird of all the birds."
The Daily Beast notes that Scott is strikingly unpopular despite representing a red-leaning state, with just a 35 percent favorability rating from the state's voters.

Despite this, Morgan said he's unsure he'll go all out to help the campaign of Democratic rival Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who has been trying to make the case that Scott is beatable.
"I might write a check, but I don’t see myself raising big money," he explained. "I would have to see a lot more as we get closer."
Mucarsel-Powell, meanwhile, has been trying to link Scott to congressional Republicans who have caused nonstop chaos through voting to oust their former speaker, tanking bipartisan immigration deals, and threatening to shut down the government.
"That’s exactly why I’m running and why great people need to step up and run so that we can bring back some sanity, some unity, get rid of the chaos and the dysfunction of Washington,” she said. “Rick Scott has been part of that dysfunction."
