Right-wing evangelical leader: It's time to investigate Trump's alleged sexual misconduct

A conservative evangelical leader broke with many of his fellow right-wing Christians this week and said there should be an investigation into sexual conduct allegedly committed by President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Iowa Public Radio, evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats said that Christians shouldn't ignore sexual allegations against Trump simply because he denies them.

"A lot of these ladies came forth in the election, and for whatever reason, the American people said 'we're going to give the presidency to Donald Trump,'" said Vander Plaats, who is the CEO of the Christian advocacy group Family Leader. "That doesn't mean their issue went away because he became president."

He went on to say that a Congressional investigation would be appropriate at this juncture, as multiple women have come forward to accuse Trump.

"I think if these ladies need to be heard on this -- and I think they probably should be heard -- then let's let the facts play out," he said. "I don't think it should be really dismissed."

Vander Plaats in 2016 backed the candidacy of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who for months had a bitter primary battle with Trump in which the president mocked the appearance of Cruz's wife and insinuated that Cruz's father might have been part of a conspiracy to murder former President John F. Kennedy.
