Someone is sending fake emails to news outlets to prove conspiracy that CNN tried to script Parkland town hall

CNN made good on their promise to offer "proof" that they didn't try to script an interview between a survivor of last week's mass shooting in Parkland, FL and a lawmaker.

Documents reviewed by Mediaite reportedly reveal that emails purportedly showing an incriminating exchange between a CNN producer and the family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Colton Haab have been "doctored," the website revealed Friday night.

On Wednesday, Pizzagate conspiracist Mike Cernovich and Illuminati-believing vlogger Mark Dice promoted blog posts that alleged Haab was not allowed to speak at CNN's town hall between Stoneman Douglas students and their lawmakers because of his pro-gun stance. Soon after, Fox News and later President Donald Trump picked up the story, causing CNN to respond directly to the president on Twitter.

Haab appeared on Fox News last night with host Tucker Carlson to allege that CNN producer Carrie Stevenson wrote him a question to ask one of the lawmakers at the event.

"It was very upsetting to me," Haab told Carlson.

Mediaite confirmed that Fox News and the Huffington Post both received emails that purported to be from the CNN producer to Haab's father Glenn. The email shows Stevenson explaining to the elder Haab that his son needs to "stick to" what they spoke about on the phone prior to the email being sent.

"This is what Colton and I discussed on the phone," the doctored email reads. "He needs to stick to this."

The original email provided to Mediaite from CNN has one significant difference to the one sent to Fox News and CNN: that Stevenson told the elder Haab that Colton should stick to the questions he submitted and discussed with her on the phone, rather than the longer list he sent for approval following their discussion.

"This is what Colton and I discussed on the phone that he submitted," Stevenson's actual email reads. "He needs to stick to this."

Glenn Haab responded to the producer, telling her he and his family "are not actors nor do we read from a script." He added he believes Stevenson only wanted Colton to “read this one short question” and they are, in turn, “not the right people for your town hall meeting."
