The national spokesperson for the Republican National Committee is "hopeful" that White House senior advisor Jared Kushner will resolve the stalemate over President Donald Trump's government shutdown.
RNC's Kayleigh McEnany praised the commander-in-chief's son-in-law during a Saturday appearance on MSNBC.
Host Alex Witt asked McEnany for analysis following Vice President Mike Pence's meeting over the shutdown, which was triggered when Trump insisted U.S. taxpayers pay for his border wall he had promised Mexico would fund.
Kushner joined Pence in the negotiations on Saturday.
"In terms of expectations, that a lot of this rests on the president," Witt noted. "That was said by the leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell, he was not, to the best of our knowledge in this room, so what are your expectations from the meeting that just ended?"
"I have high expectations," McEnany replied.
"I would note this, Jared Kushner is a very adept negotiator," McEnany claimed.
"As you'll recall, when the trade talks were breaking down over NAFTA, it was Jared Kushner that really was able to pick up the phone and make the USMCA deal happen," she argued.
The "United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement" has yet be ratified by either the United States, Mexico or Canada.
"This is a good group," McEnany said of the administration's negotiation team. "If anyone can get this done, it's this group."
