After a dramatic defamation trial over his false election claims about Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, Rudy Giuliani was found liable for $148 million in compensatory and punitive damages by a jury on Friday.
The reaction from social media, and particularly on X, was swift and mocking.
"Buh-bye, Rudy," posted attorney and legal commentator Bradley Moss, a security expert.

"The jury in Washington D.C. has awarded Fulton County election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, a whopping total of $148,169,000 in compensatory and punitive damages against Rudy Giuliani for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress," wrote Georgia State law professor Anthony Michael Kreis, adding, "I had to do those calculations twice to make sure I hadn’t made a massive error."
Other, more anonymous commenters also had a field day.
"Couldn’t happen to a more deserving individual! Those poor women," wrote one. "Rudy ordered to pay roughly 10 Mar-a-Lagos in damages," wrote another. "That’s going to put a little hitch in Giuliani’s giddy up," a third said. And a fourth wrote, "That was one expensive gingermint" — a reference to the fact that Giuliani claimed Freeman and Moss were passing a USB drive loaded with illegal votes, that turned out to just be a ginger mint.
And a Never Trump conservative account known as "The Values Voter" had a blunter take.
"Rudy Giuliani is soulless, doesn’t have a functioning conscience and shows zero remorse for destroying and endangering these two innocent women’s lives," they wrote. "But on top of that, he’s also become a bit stupid. Because he repeated the slander THIS WEEK. They could sue him for that too."
