Russia: Trump agrees with Putin and thinks election hacking claims are 'exaggerated'

President Donald Trump did raise the subject of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election during his one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday -- but Putin still steadfastly denied any role in hacking either the DNC or former Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

After the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters that Trump had told Putin he believed that "some circles in the US are exaggerating the topic of Russian cyber meddling," according to Guardian reporter Alec Luhn.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson confirmed that Trump had brought up election hacking to Putin during their meeting, and claimed that Putin completely denied any involvement. Tillerson claims that Trump "pressed" Putin about his role in last year's election, but he steadfastly continued to deny knowing anything about it.

According to Bloomberg News reporter Jennifer Jacobs, Tillerson said that the Russians asked Trump for proof of Russian interference in the election -- but Trump simply punted by saying it was the intelligence community's responsibility to put forward evidence, while agreeing to "move forward" from the matter.

Jacobs also said that Lavrov claimed that Trump "accepted" Putin's claim that he had no role in interfering with the 2016 election.

Tillerson also said that, aside from talking about last year's election, Trump and Putin "connected very quickly" and "there was a very clear positive chemistry between the two."
