White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Friday that President Donald Trump still believes it will be "easy" to win a trade war with China because he is the world's greatest negotiator.
When asked by ABC News' Jon Karl about whether he was still confident about his ability to beat China in a trade war, Sanders said he "absolutely" was because "if he is in charge of those negotiations... he's the best negotiator at the table."
Despite his past boasts of his "deal-making" skills, Trump so far has been unable to get a Congress that is run by his own party to fully fund a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which was his single biggest campaign promise.
Trump's threats to slap heavy tariffs on China have roiled global financial markets for the last week, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Friday was down by more than 600 points at the time of Sanders' press conference.
