During an appearance on MSNBC on Thursday morning, former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) made the case that it is time for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step aside because he is not the man to lead the party during Donald Trump's second term.
Speaking with the hosts of "Morning Joe," Ryan expanded upon an X post he made about Schumer at a recent rally where the 74-year-old led the assembled Democrats in a tepid "We will win" chant.
On X, where he shared a clip of the rally, he wrote: "I just don’t even know what to say anymore when I see this kind of stuff. Is it Saturday Night Live or real life? Does anyone really think this is the future of the country? This is the only alternative to Trump’s America? It’s just so depressing."

On "Morning Joe" his opinion had not changed.
"Tim, you had a strong reaction to that appearance by Minority Leader Schumer. Your thoughts sir?" he was asked by co-host Willie Geist.
"You know, sitting here in Ohio and watching that all go down, you just think that that is not the messenger and that's not kind of the visual we need, I think, to start turning this thing around," he began. "And I just, I just think, you know, Schumer's brand is not good. And all of the things that you guys just itemized and illustrated, it doesn't matter if you don't have a message and a messenger that can communicate that thing."
"I think guys like Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) are lighting it up right now," he offered. "You know, [Sen. Brian] Schatz [D-HI] is doing a great job. There are people out there that should be in front of the cameras, and there are certain people that should not be, the stakes are too high."
"I thought, you know, those things look a lot like political rallies," he continued. "This is a very serious time in our country's history."
