'Science Guy' Bill Nye headed to Netflix with new talk show: 'We'll change the world a little'

Netflix has tapped Bill Nye to "save the world," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The streaming service announced on Wednesday that the "Science Guy" will debut next year as host of a new talk show, Bill Nye Saves The World. The series marks his first TV project since his eponymous PBS show that ran from 1993 to 1998.

"Since the start of the Science Guy show, I've been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science," Nye said. "Today, I'm excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we'll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we'll change the world a little."

Nye's new project will feature a different topic every episode, with an emphasis on debunking denials of scientific fact from "politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry."

The show will also feature popular blogger Phil "Bad Astronomer" Plait as its head science writer. It is slated to premiere next spring.
