Capitol rioter wants to testify before Jan. 6 committee but jail won't let him meet with investigators: attorney

A U.S. Capitol rioter accused of assaulting a police officer wants to testify but complains that he can't get the D.C. jail to help him sit down with congressional investigators.

Scott Fairlamb, a former MMA fighter whose brother is a Secret Service agent, will be sentenced this week after pleading guilty to assault and attempting to obstruct Congress, but he's now the first publicly known felony defendant to accept an invitation to cooperate with the House select committee, reported Politico.

"But of course, the D.C. Jail would not allow the U.S. House of Representatives permission to come inside the jail and interview the Defendant along with counsel," said his attorney Harley Breite. "In fact, the D.C. Jail has done nothing but impede my ability to even receive an answer as to how such a meeting could be conducted."

The committee has already been receiving testimony from some of the approximately 700 defendants charged in the Jan. 6 insurrection, but those have been charged with non-violent misdemeanors.

Leonardo Gruppo testified Oct. 12 and Jack Griffith told a judge he would be willing to cooperate, while at least one other defendant has already testified.

A spokesperson for the D.C. Department of Corrections has not responded to a request for comment on Breite's claims.
