SE Cupp worries Trump will leave Romney 'like Carrie — with a bucket of pig's blood on his head'

Conservative CNN pundit SE Cupp is dubious about the political bromance developing between President-Elect Donald Trump and former Trump foe Mitt Romney.

"I want, the optimist in me, wanted to believe this was an earnest, sincere courtship," Cupp said on Friday's "Situation Room." "I'm increasingly having a sinking feeling that it's not. This is going to end like the prom scene in 'Carrie' with a bucket of pig’s blood dumped on Mitt Romney’s head. It's too weird. The courtship is so public, so over the top. They had tremendous acrimony over the past year. Where is Rudy Giuliani's Jean-George's dinner? It's looking and smelling bizarre to me. I talked to someone close to Romney today, who has the same anxiety and concern. I hope I'm wrong. I hope at the end of this, whether Trump picks him or doesn't, he does it with respect and dignity."

CNN correspondent Gloria Borger was just as cynical.

"Part of me believes the reason that Donald Trump is encouraging people to criticize Mitt Romney publicly is if he does pick him, he can say you owe me," she said.

Borger also noted that when Romney's father ran for president against Nixon the relationship between the two was just as contentious. The elder Romney then agreed to serve in President Nixon's administration. While he did later resign, he waited until after Nixon was reelected before he left.

The panel also noted that it was interesting Trump seems to be surrounding himself with generals when he spent the campaign saying that he knew more than the generals.
