Sean Hannity pushes bogus claim for Colin Kaepernick’s protest: He 'converted to Islam'

Fox News host Sean Hannity engaged in speculation on Monday regarding NFL star Colin Kaepernick's motivation behind his protest of the national anthem, Media Matters reported.

"Who's -- who gave me this article today? I don't even know where I got it," Hannity said on his radio show. "Anyway, it said during the off-season he may have converted to Islam, and he's also engaged with Black Lives Matter, and I guess hip hop radio personality DJ Nessa Diab? Who's that? I've never heard of these people."

Contrary to Hannity's reasoning, the fact-checking site Snopes reported that the "rumor" stemmed from a piece of gossip posted on a sports-related site, and has been linked to doctored photos of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

In reality, Kaepernick has not assigned any religious significance to his decision over the weekend not to stand for the national anthem. Regardless, Hannity insisted that he was a "spoiled brat."

"He lives in a place that should be praised for overcoming its wrongs and injustices, and having the freedom for its people to rise up for the better and change the country, because of a system put in place by our framers and our founders," said Hannity, who lent vocal support to anti-government Cliven Bundy and his armed supporters in 2014 when they threatened federal authorities during a standoff regarding his unwillingness to pay grazing fees for his cattle.
