Sensenbrenner will apologize to First Lady for 'large posterior' remark

FishbowlDC reports that an aide to Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has stated that the Congressman will be contacting the office of First Lady Michelle Obama to apologize for a remark he made regarding what he alleged was Obama's "large posterior."

Yesterday, Sensenbrenner was overheard speaking loudly into his cell phone at Reagan National Airport. According to an eyewitness, he told a story of a woman who approached him at a church auction to make comments in support of First Lady Michelle Obama. Sensenbrenner responded that he believed Mrs. Obama to be a hypocrite in that "she lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself."

Since then, Sensenbrenner's remarks have touched off a firestorm. Today, Sensenbrenner spokesperson Amanda Infield has emailed FishbowlDC, saying that the Representative stands by his remarks.

Infield writes, "Mr. Sensenbrenner was referring to the First Lady’s healthy food initiative. He doesn’t think the government should be telling Americans what to eat. While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the First Lady’s office to apologize for his comments."
