'She is someone': Lena Dunham and 'Girls' cast release powerful video about Stanford rape case

Lena Dunham and the cast of the HBO series Girls released a video expressing their solidarity with the woman who was raped by former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner.

Dunham announced the video clip on Twitter, writing, "I dedicate this to the brave survivor in the Stanford case who has given so much to change the conversation."

In the video, Dunham and cast mates Zosia Mamet, Allison Williams and Jemima Kirke say that the four of them disagree on many things, but they are all unified in their support of the Stanford victim, whose searing victim impact statement has gone viral and made the crime and its perpetrator notorious.

Why, the video asked, when sexual assaults are so common, does society seek to shame, blame and silence the survivors of sexual abuse?

"What if we chose to turn toward those in need instead of away?" Mamet said. "You have the choice to make things better."

"You already have the power to create a safer, healthier environment for women to come forward," said Williams. "So please -- support, listen and take action."

"Not because she's someone's daughter or someone's girlfriend or someone's sister," the group said, "but because she is someone."
