Simpson: That AARP ad is 'the most disgusting thing I've ever seen'

Former Wyoming Republican senator Alan Simpson has never been a fan of the American Association for Retired People (AARP). And the co-chair to last year White House's "Fiscal Reform Commission" continued his assault on the organization and Social Security Tuesday afternoon.

At the Deficit Reduction Committee hearing, Simpson voiced his anger over seeing AARP's latest commercial that featured an elderly man warning Congress if Social Security and Medicare were cut.

"Just this morning I saw that ad, that is the most disgusting ad I have ever seen." "I don't know what the people got paid, especially the actors, but I'll tell you this, I am well paid. They said, "We're 50 million, we're watching you, and we vote. That is a really ugly thing."

Simpson, who earlier on MSNBC's The Daily Rundown, Simspon called the commercial's lead actor a "jerk" and "arrogant," went on to continue chastising the organization.

"Let me tell you want will happen with their view of the world which is to do nothing to restore the solvency of Social Security," he said. "In the year 2036, you're going to wattle up to window and get a check for 23% less, and then I will hope they remember AARP. And I hope a lot of young people will too."

But it has been well documented that is in good financial standing with a surplus of $2.6 trillion, and has contributed nothing to the United States' deficit. And even if there are no changes made to the system by 2036, such as a tax increase on rich individuals, Social Security would still be able to pay out 75% of its promised benefits.

Last year, Simpson faced calls to resign from President Barack Obama's "Fiscal Reform Commission" after comparing Social Security to "a milk cow with 310 million tits."
