Sources say White House lied about removing interview limits: FBI lacks authority to talk to Kavanaugh

The White House is not permitting the FBI to talk to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh about the possibility that he sexually assaulted multiple women, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

"The FBI hasn’t interviewed Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh or Christine Blasey Ford because it doesn’t have clear authority from the White House to do so, according to two people with knowledge of the matter," Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

The White House has instead pointed the FBI to Kavanaugh's Senate testimony, which officials believe should be sufficient for purposes of the investigation.

After initially telling the FBI that it could only interview four witnesses, the White House last week said that it had removed all interview limitations.

As late as Wednesday morning, attorney's for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, said that she also had not been interviewed.

Multiple Republican senators indicated that a report on the FBI interviews could be available as soon as Wednesday afternoon.
