South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has endorsed GOP candidate Marco Rubio for president, The State reports. Haley, a popular Republican, selected an "establishment" candidate best positioned to challenge front runner Donald Trump.
Haley made a name for herself after taking a lead on removing the long-flying Confederate flag from over the South Carolina Statehouse after accused shooter Dylann Roof killed nine people, including South Carolina State Sen. Clementa Pinckney, last summer in a historically-black church in Charleston.
According to The State, Haley's name has been raised as a possible contender for vice presidential pick.
Earlier today, Haley said she is opposed to Trump, according to CNN.
Trump, she said, represents "everything a governor doesn't want in a president."
She added, "I want someone who is going to hold Republicans accountable, and I want someone who is going to make a difference, not just for our party but for every person they represent in the country."
