Splintered GOPers sue ousted MAGA Michigan chair to decide rightful leader: report​

A group of Michigan Republicans filed a lawsuit against election denier and state GOP Chairwoman Kristina Karamo weeks after many of the party's leaders sought her resignation following a tumultuous year of a tenure hampered by debt and infighting.

“(Karamo) has brazenly and repeatedly asserted that she continues to occupy the role of chair of the committee, causing significant confusion among elected precinct delegates and the county Republican organizations throughout Michigan who rely on guidance from the committee on matters of critical importance to our state and country,” reads a copy of the lawsuit, according to MLive.

It is asking for "judicial intervention" ahead of the rapidly approaching election cycle.

The suit blames Karamo for violating the party's bylaws and a breach of contract.

The filing in Kent County Circuit Court is the latest in a tug-of-war over of two factions claiming control of the Michigan Republican Party.

Earlier this month, Karamo was voted by about 89% of the 45 people who gathered together to oust Karamo.

A week later, Karamo gathered her own meeting to earn 55% of the state committees — with 107 members backing her as the leader.

The embattled co-chair has maintained she's the only legitimate chair, and almost dared the opposition to sue her if they could.

“If these people had any legal standing, I don’t care who said what, they would have sued me by now and they haven’t because they would lose,” Karamo said.

Karamo failed at a bid for secretary of state but segued to become the party chair in February 2023.

Since then, Karamo became the target of internal spats, with party members accusing her of causing the organization to be at risk of bankruptcy and failing to be transparent despite promises to do so.
