Conservative podcast host and convicted criminal Steve Bannon said Thursday that former President Donald Trump should pick U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's wife, Martha-Ann, as vice president.
Bannon made the remarks while reflecting on an MSNBC discussion about Samuel Alito's decision not to recuse himself in a Jan. 6 case after his wife flew the U.S. flag upside down.
"Did they just say, can't you muzzle your own wife?" Bannon asked. "I think that was a quote. What is going, are they that unhinged?"
"Because Justice Alito's wife, right, is now on my shortlist to be VP," he continued. "She's a hammer. And I don't think you're, I don't think, she's not Handmaid's Tale, I don't think you're [going to] muzzle her."

Contrary to Bannon's claim, there is no record of MSNBC personalities calling to "muzzle" Alito's wife.
MSNBC guest Dahlia Lithwick predicted that right-wing pundits would try to claim that liberals wanted justices' wives to be silenced.
"We've heard over and over again how dare critics of Justices Thomas and Alito try to muzzle and silence their wives who are, you know, independent agents and can do what they want," Lithwick explained on May 19. "I mean, clearly, if you look at the ethics rules, it has nothing to do with muzzling your wife."
