Steve Bannon's fraud trial to start almost immediately after he gets out of jail

Convicted criminal and MAGA influencer Steve Bannon won't be out of legal hot water after he finishes serving his four-month prison sentence later this year.

NBC News reports that Bannon is scheduled to go on trial in December on charges that he defrauded donors who gave money to the "We Build the Wall" crowdfunding campaign.

This means that Bannon will have been out of jail for a little more than a month before he has to return to court to stand trial for charges that include money laundering, scheming to defraud, and conspiracy.

Prosecutors allege that Bannon swindled donors by promising that all of the money they sent to the campaign would be spent on building a wall along the United States-Mexico border, when in reality much of the money was embezzled by "We Build the Wall" founder Brian Kolfage, who used donations to give himself over $250,000 in what prosecutors describe as "secret salary payments."

Kolfage has already pleaded guilty to federal charges for his role in the scheme and has been slapped with a 51-month prison sentence.

Bannon had also previously been indicted on federal charges for the scheme, but was subsequently given a last-minute pardon by former President Donald Trump right before he left office in January 2021.

Bannon was sent to prison earlier this month on unrelated charges of being in criminal contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riots.
