Steve Schmidt bulldozes Trump's fantastical policy promises: 'Just words coming out and floating into the air'

MSNBC Republican analyst Steve Schmidt on Wednesday suggested that President Donald Trump's promises laid out during the State of the Union address were complete fantasies.

During a Wednesday morning panel discussion on MSNBC, host Stephanie Ruhle noted that Trump had proposed spending large amounts of taxpayer money at his Tuesday address.

"He talked a lot about spending, investments in job training, workforce training, vocational schools on top of infrastructure," the MSNBC host pointed out. "These are all beautiful ideas, they have lots of listening tours about them. Are Republicans going to get on board for that? Where on Earth is the money going to come from?"

"No," Schmidt replied. "Again, Stephanie, it's just words coming out and floating up into the air. There's no rigor to the policy. There is not substantive plan behind it."

Schmidt observed that Trump had already added "another trillion and half dollars in debt by the tax cut."

"There's just no political will on the [Republican] majority side to do any of those things," he concluded.
