Tapper shames lawmakers after Vegas massacre: I wish I could say they're doing everything they can 'but they are not'

CNN’s Jake Tapper on Monday began his show with a somber analysis of just how frequently he’s forced to report on deadly mass shootings, telling viewers he wishes this were “the last time,” but knows it won’t be.

“This is the second time, in as many years, that you’re hearing me report to you about the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history,” Tapper said on “The Lead.” The CNN host noted he said the same thing on June 12, 2016, when a gunman opened fire at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, and expressed a similar sentiment three and a half years before that, when a killer stormed Sandy Hook Elementary School and murdered 20 children and six adults.

“I wish I could tell you this is the last time I'm ever going to report to you about the deadliest mass shorting in modern American history, but I cannot tell you that,” Tapper said. “I wish I could report that lawmakers are huddling right now to try to figure out how to do everything they constitutionally can to keep these weapons of mass murder out of the hands of violently insane individuals who use them to harm innocent people, but they are not doing that.”
