Ted Cruz claims Beto O’Rourke is ‘going to ban barbecue across the state of Texas’

The junior senator for the state of Texas launched a loaded new attack on his Democratic Party opponent, claiming that Democrats will ban barbecue if they win in November, the Austin American-Stateman reported Monday.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), facing a re-election struggle against Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) in the 2018 midterms.

Speaking at the South Texas town of Columbus, Sen. Cruz lashed out at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for protesting his event.

“When I got here someone told me that even PETA was protesting and giving out barbecued tofu, so I got to say, they summed up the entire election: If Texas elects a Democrat, they’re going to ban barbecue across the state of Texas," Cruz claimed.

“You want to talk about an issue to mobilize the people, and I’m talking everybody,” Cruz continued.

On Sunday, the day after the rally attack, Cruz repeated the charge that his Democratic Party challenger would ban barbecue.
