Ted Cruz victory lap backfires as pro-Trump brag torn apart: 'Habba taken more seriously'

Sen. Ted Cruz’s show of support for former President Donald Trump hasn't gone according to plan.

Cruz (R-TX) took to X Friday to take a victory lap — boasting his name was among about 180 Republicans who condemned Colorado’s insurrectionist ban in a Supreme Court filing — only to find himself slammed by followers.

“It is very rare for so many Members of Congress to submit an amicus brief,” Cruz wrote. “I hope that the Supreme Court agrees with our brief and rules for President Trump unanimously.”

The post was viewed more than 50,000 times since it went live at 12:45 p.m. Social media did not appear impressed with Cruz or his brief.

“He insulted your wife and father,” wrote Jorge Washington, in reference to Trump’s 2016 tweet comparing Melania’s looks to Heidi Cruz’s. “But yeah, cool stuff.”

“That’s great,” added @HilldurG. “Now what’s going to happen when he’s convicted?”

Trump has pleaded not guilty in four criminal cases in New York, Washington D.C., Florida and Georgia linked to porn star hush money, election interference, confidential White House documents stored in a ballroom and election racketeering, respectively.

“How brave of you,” wrote @Swetytooth. “Not as brave as endorsing a ‘pathological liar’ and ‘sniveling coward’ but ‘brave’ nonetheless.”

Cruz called Trump a pathological liar in 2016 after Trump suggested his father was connected to John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The sniveling coward comment came out after Trump insulted Cruz’s wife.

Cruz’s post also included a plug for his podcast, which irked @auntie_shay.

“C’mon Podcaster,” she wrote. “Alina Habba is taken more seriously.”

Habba this week has faced widespread criticism for her courtroom antics in Trump’s civil defamation trial in New York City, excluding one legal writer who professed herself delighted at the opportunity for mockery.
