Texas A&M football player arrested after being accused of pointing a rifle at students and threatening to kill them

A starting defensive lineman playing for Texas A&M's football team was taken into custody early Sunday morning for reportedly pointing a rifle and threatening to kill classmates at a student housing complex.

According to KPRC, 23-year-old Zaycoven Dearnez Henderson and companion Terry Lechler Florez, 24, were arrested after police were called at 2:30 AM  after Henderson pointed the rifle and confronted two students residing at the Campus Village Apartments.

The report states that the senior defensive lineman has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon --a second-degree felony that could result in two to 20 years in prison -- as well as third-degree felony of tampering with evidence and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession of less than two ounces.

According to the police report, arriving officers spotted the a vehicle leaving the scene and later conducted a traffic stop where the two men were detained.

Police discovered the rifle that had been discarded in a a wooded area, with the victims identifying Henderson as the assailant and the retrieved weapon as the one wielded by the football player.

Prior to his arrest, Henderson was considered a possible NFL prospect.
